New and Replacement Countertops
Projects may include kitchen counters, islands, bathroom vanities, bars, laundry rooms, offices, outdoor kitchens, and other built-in areas.
Material options may include quartz, granite, marble, quartzite, porcelain, and other slabs suited to the location and intended use.
Depending on the written proposal, the specialist portion may include:
- Site measurement and templating
- Material and slab selection
- Edge fabrication and seam placement
- Sink, faucet, and cooktop cutouts
- Delivery and installation
- Removal and disposal of the existing countertop when listed
Use Handyman may separately quote and complete tile backsplash, drywall, cabinet support, trim, caulk, and paint around the installation. Full-height slab backsplash measurement, cutting, and fitting are handled by the specialist. Plumbing, gas, and electrical items are assigned separately when required.
Custom Stone Fabrication
Send photos of the installation area, rough dimensions, preferred material, and a drawing or plan when available. This helps determine whether a made-to-measure piece can be fabricated, carried in, supported, and fitted safely.
Made-to-measure items may include:
- Fireplace surrounds and hearths
- Dining, coffee, console, conference, and display tabletops
- Outdoor kitchens, serving areas, and built-in patio pieces
- Wall caps, shelves, window sills, and thresholds
- Shower benches, curbs, tub decks, and spa surrounds
- Slab wall panels, desk surfaces, reception counters, and other measured pieces
Heat or weather exposure, finished weight, base support, edge details, seams, transport path, stairs, and site access are reviewed before pricing is confirmed.
Stone Repair and Modification
An installed piece may sometimes be repaired or changed without full replacement. Send one wide photo of the full area and close photos of the damage for review.
Possible services and changes include:
- Surface, edge, corner, seam, and sink-area chips
- Open, uneven, or separated seams and failed corner joints
- Small cracks when an in-place repair is practical
- Reattaching a loose or fallen undermount sink and correcting its support
- Sink or cooktop opening changes when the material and layout allow them
- New holes for a faucet, soap dispenser, or filtered-water fixture
- Repair of damaged holes and cutouts
- Shortening or reworking an installed piece when practical
- Polishing, sealing, and renewal when the condition allows it
Not every crack, cutout, seam, or unsupported sink can be repaired or changed in place. Slab type, thickness, support, access, earlier work, and damage depth determine whether the service can be accepted.
Sink removal or reattachment may require the plumbing connections to be disconnected and reconnected. That part will be listed separately when needed.
The service can improve use and appearance, but the treated area may remain visible. Pattern, color, age, prior work, damage depth, and lighting affect the final appearance.

Fabricate, Install, and Finish
Fabrication begins after the responsible company receives the required full payment. The approved pieces are then made, delivered, and fitted. Separately approved backsplash, cabinet, wall, trim, caulk, or paint items follow in the stated order.
Project Coverage
The main service area is the west and southwest suburbs of Chicago. Larger made-to-measure or multi-part installation requests may also be considered in selected parts of northern Illinois, northwest Indiana, and southwest Michigan when size, travel, site access, and scheduling make the route practical.

Should an existing countertop be repaired or replaced?
Repair may fit when damage is limited and the installed slab remains stable. Replacement is more likely when damage is widespread, the layout is changing, several sections have failed, or a different look is wanted. -
Can photos support an early price range?
Wide and close photos, rough dimensions, and a drawing or plan may support an early range. The final price is set after the material, measurements, edge profile, seams, openings, removal, cabinet support, and access are reviewed. -
Can the old countertop and backsplash be removed?
Yes, when the proposal includes removal and disposal. Full-height slab backsplash is handled by the fabricator. Tile backsplash may be handled by Use Handyman. -
Do cabinets need to be level and supported?
Cabinets must be stable, level, and able to support the finished slab. Needed corrections are identified and priced separately before templating or fitting. -
How are seams, edges, and openings approved?
The template records seam locations, edge profile, sink and cooktop openings, and other cutouts. These details are approved before the pieces are made. -
Who handles the sink, faucet, disposal, or cooktop?
The proposal identifies who handles each item. Plumbing, gas, or electrical service that requires a licensed trade is assigned separately. -
When are payments due?
The fabricator requires full payment for its portion before cutting begins. Payment for any Use Handyman items follows the schedule in its separate proposal. -
Who provides the warranty?
The project documents identify which company is responsible for each part and which warranty applies.
